Significantly Lower Electricity Bills with Rooftop Solar
A Household Savings Story
In Bac Giang, Ms. Tran Thu Thuy invested around VND 200 million in an 18 kWp rooftop solar system paired with a 16.1 kWh energy storage unit. Thanks to a roof area of over 100 m² fully covered with panels, her family—whose regular usage includes air conditioners, an elevator, and daily household needs—cut their monthly electricity bill from VND 5–6 million down to about VND 600,000–800,000.

Pioneering Businesses Embrace Clean Energy
Not only households but many businesses are also adopting this solution to save costs and enhance sustainability. A case in point is Crystal Martin (Vietnam) Co., Ltd., which has commissioned a system of over 3 MW, meeting nearly 20% of the plant’s electricity demand. The company plans to raise total capacity to 5.4 MW by 2030—equivalent to 30% of consumption. In parallel, it targets a 35% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

A Growing Trend in Northern Vietnam
According to EVNNPC, nearly 700 MWp of rooftop solar is now operational across the North. Some provinces stand out: Thanh Hoa has nearly 66 MWp from more than 600 customers, while Yên Bái reports roughly 300,000 kWh fed into the grid. These figures reflect how rooftop solar is spreading throughout the community.

Expert View: Long-Term Benefits
Mr. Phạm Đăng An—Deputy CEO of Vu Phong Energy Group—emphasizes that self-generation and self-consumption via rooftop solar not only saves costs, but also strengthens brand reputation, supports ESG commitments, and boosts export competitiveness. At the macro level, expanding distributed renewables eases transmission pressure, reduces line losses, creates jobs, and accelerates the green economy.

Support Policies and National Targets
Under Power Development Plan VIII, Vietnam aims that by 2030 at least 50% of households and 50% of office buildings will self-generate and self-consume electricity via rooftop solar. This aligns with annual electricity demand growth of 12–16%, especially as the North frequently faces overload risks during hot summer months.

Technology and Optimal Solutions
For long-term performance, households should prioritize Mono-PERC, half-cut cell, or n-type TOPCon panels for high efficiency and durability. For mid-scale systems, string inverters are a popular choice; businesses can add power optimizers as needed. Smart monitoring helps detect faults and improve operations. Notably, pairing with a Lithium LFP battery energy storage system (BESS) can significantly increase the self-consumption ratio.
Flexible Financing Options
Beyond self-investment, many companies can choose to lease systems from professional providers. In this model, the supplier covers investment, construction, and maintenance; the enterprise pays a usage fee per contract—no upfront capital required.
